Bowels of the World
from “Top of the World” by the Carpenters

Such a feeling coming over me
There is ugliness in everything I see
One big cloud in the sky
Got a stick in my eye
And I won’t be surprised if it’s a tree

Everything I wouldn’t want to see
Is now coming true, especially for me
And the reason is clear - I must drink too much beer
And my drugs have put me into bankruptcy

I’m in the bowels of the world looking
Out at creation and the only explanation I can find
All the people I see - they are never nice to me
And it’s put me in the bowels of the world

Something in the wind has learned my name
And it’s telling me my toaster is to blame
And the leaves in the trees ain’t just shooting the breeze
There’s a scary sense of a conspiracy

There is only one thing I have planned
And it’s to continuously wash my hands
For tomorrow will be
Just the same, you wait and see
And I think I need some heavy therapy

*I’m in the bowels of the world looking
Out at creation and the only explanation I can find
All these people I see - they are never nice to me
And it’s put me in the bowels of the world

Repeat *
